How Users Can Create a Teams PWA on the Remote Desktop Server

Each user can create their own Teams PWA (Progressive Web App) on the Remote Desktop Server. This gives them a desktop‑style Teams icon and a cleaner experience than running Teams in a browser tab.

Below are the steps each user should follow.

Steps to Create the Teams PWA

  1. Open Microsoft Edge
(Teams PWA works best in Edge on the Remote Desktop Server.)
  2. Go to the Teams website
    https://teams.microsoft.com
  3. Sign in if prompted.
  4. Install the Teams App (PWA)
In the upper‑right corner of Edge, users will see an icon that looks like:
    • A small computer screen with a down arrow, or
    • A prompt that says “App available” or “Install”

They should click: Install → Microsoft Teams

  1. Choose “Allow” or “Install” when Edge asks for confirmation.
  2. Teams will now open in its own window, separate from the browser.
  3. A Teams icon will be added to the Remote Desktop desktop and Start Menu
Users can now launch Teams directly from that icon instead of opening a browser.

Optional: Pin Teams to the Taskbar

Once the PWA opens:

  1. Right‑click the Teams icon on the taskbar
  2. Select Pin to taskbar

This keeps Teams available with one click.

Notes for Users

  • This does not install the full Teams desktop client (which is not supported on RDS).
  • The PWA is lightweight and fully supported on Remote Desktop Servers.
  • If a user deletes their profile or their profile resets, they may need to reinstall the PWA using the same steps.
