How to Remove Email Accounts from the iPhone Mail App (iOS)

Modified on Wed, 1 Jul at 8:44 AM

If you previously added your work email to the iPhone’s built‑in Mail app, you can remove it safely. These steps will not remove your iCloud account unless you choose to remove it.

1. Open the Settings app

Tap the gray Settings icon on your iPhone.

2. Scroll down and tap “Mail”

This opens the Mail settings for the device.

3. Tap “Accounts”

You’ll see a list of all email accounts currently added to the iPhone, including:

  • iCloud

  • Gmail

  • Outlook / Exchange

  • Any other accounts you’ve added

4. Select the account you want to remove

Tap the work email or Exchange account you want to delete.

Important:  If you see iCloud, do not remove it unless you intentionally want to disable iCloud services. Most users should keep their iCloud account on the device.

5. Tap “Delete Account”

This button appears at the bottom of the screen.

6. Confirm “Delete from My iPhone”

This removes the email, contacts, calendars, and notes associated with that account from the native Mail app.

Your iCloud account will remain untouched.

What stays on the phone

Removing the work email account does not affect:

  • iCloud Mail

  • iMessage

  • Photos

  • Contacts stored in iCloud

  • App Store access

  • Any other personal Apple services

Only the selected email account is removed.

Optional: Verify the account is gone

Go back to:

Settings → Mail → Accounts

The removed account should no longer appear.
